January

Ace appears at NAMM to promote his signature Washburn AF-40 and a current deal with Laney amps. (The two brands shared a US distributor.)

April

Ace appears without makeup in ads for Laney and Washburn in rock magazines. Kerrang reports Ace's official unmasking.

Spring/Summer

John Regan records with Billy Idol and John Waite. Richie Scarlet play a few shows around the New York area with The Seducers.

September

On september 24 Ace, Richie and Anton have a meeting at Be Bop Café to discuss the band's future (or possibly just to meet up before going to the Cat Club together). The three of them jam with members of Smashed Gladys later that night.

Summer/Fall

Eddie Trunk convinces Joe Zazula to take a meeting with Ace which leads to a six-album deal with Megaforce.

November

Ace signs his deal with Megaforce Records on November 26. By this time Rob Sabino is out of the band but Richie Scarlet is still in. Regan had left to work with John Waite again but returns when Ace tells him about the record deal. Recording begins at Right Track with Eddie Kramer.

December

Richie Scarlet is out of the band and Tod Howarth is brought in. Howarth is yet another of John Regan's acquaintances from the road (Howarth was in Cheap Trick when they opened for John Waite).
