Arthur Stead leaves the band. Ace and his wife Jeanette are arrested in Greenburgh, New York, and charged with "trying to buy drugs with a forged prescription". "The Frehleys were held without bail pending a court appearance" on Tuesday May 14. The case was originally arraigned until June 11 but about a week later the charges against Ace were dropped due to "a case of mistaken identity. […] Had he been convicted, Frehley faced a mandatory jail sentence of up to seven years in prison because it would have been his second felony offense in 10 years". Kerrang reports that a record deal with Bronze Records is in the works.
Rob Sabino, a childhood friend of Ace's, is brought in on keyboards. Sabino had also been associate producer on Richie Scarlet's 1984 album Hit For Hit. It's probable that George Sewitt quits around this time. (Over the course of 1986 both Regan and Scarlet mention in interviews that Ace is taking his time choosing a manager.)
Dutch fanzine Kiss Explorer Army Explosion reports that "Ace and his band recorded [sic.] their debut album in London".
Swedish magazine Rocket report that the deal with Bronze Records is no more due to the label's financial issues. Comet Watch later report that the deal with Bronze Records fell through because the label went "belly-up". Ace claimed that "I pulled out [of the deal] because I decided I didn't want to record in England".
Frehley's Comet record a three-song demo with Tony Bongiovi at Power Station and send it to various labels: Words Are Not Enough, The Hurt Is On, and Into The Night. The song Dolls was also recorded at this time and Kerrang mentioned that a cover of The Boys Are Back In Town was also committed to tape. Talking to Comet Watch Richie Scarlet says that "Tony Bongiovi is overseeing the whole project, and we're confident with him that we're going to get what we're looking for".
